Unit Manager – Theatre and Trauma Trained

The Unit Manager Theatre and Trauma Trained is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the operating theatre and trauma unit. This includes ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care, compliance with healthcare standards, and effective coordination of staff and resources. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management Lead and supervise theatre and trauma nursing teams. Ensure optimal staff allocation, rostering, and performance management. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Clinical Oversight Maintain high standards of perioperative and trauma care. Ensure adherence to infection control, patient safety, and clinical protocols. Oversee emergency preparedness and trauma response procedures. Operational Efficiency Manage theatre schedules, equipment, and consumables. Monitor budgets, cost control, and resource utilization. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and national healthcare regulations. Quality Assurance Uphold patient rights and ethical standards. Conduct audits, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions. Drive continuous professional development and training initiatives Qualifications & Experience Registered Nurse (RN) with valid registration at the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Post-basic qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing. Trauma training and certification (e.g., ATLS, TNCC, or equivalent). Minimum 5 years experience in theatre nursing, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to manage high-pressure trauma and surgical environments. Knowledge of healthcare legislation, ethical standards, and best practices. Resourceful, detail-oriented, and adaptable to dynamic clinical settings
