Job Description
The External Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue growth by selling products and services through face-to-face engagement with customers. This role operates primarily in the field, building strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and delivering tailored solutions that meet customer needs. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, customer-focused, and comfortable managing a sales territory independently. Key Responsibilities Prospecting & Lead Generation Identify and develop new business opportunities through cold visits, referrals, networking, events, and proactive follow-ups. Client Meetings & Presentations Travel to customer locations to understand business needs, present solutions, and demonstrate product or service value. Relationship Management Build and maintain long-term client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor. Needs Analysis & Solution Selling Assess customer challenges and objectives, recommending customized solutions rather than one-size-fits-all offerings. Negotiation & Deal Closing Prepare quotations, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and successfully close sales contracts. Territory Management Plan routes, prioritize accounts, and efficiently manage a defined geographic or industry-based territory. Account Growth & Retention Drive upselling and cross-selling opportunities, renew contracts, and ensure ongoing customer satisfaction post-sale. Market & Competitor Intelligence Gather and share insights on customer trends, competitor activity, and market conditions with internal stakeholders. Sales Reporting & Forecasting Accurately log customer visits, opportunities, forecasts, and pipeline activity in the CRM or sales system. Internal Collaboration Work closely with internal teams such as Customer Success, Operations, and Finance to ensure smooth onboarding and service delivery. Key Requirements Proven experience in external/field sales, business development, or a similar customer-facing sales role Strong prospecting, negotiation, and closing skills Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities Ability to understand customer needs and translate them into tailored solutions Self-driven, disciplined, and comfortable working independently in the field Strong planning and time-management skills with the ability to manage a sales territory Comfortable using CRM systems and sales reporting tools Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the assigned territory Valid drivers license (where applicable)
