General Manager Information Technology Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea Industry: Aviation Role Overview A leading aviation organisation is seeking an experienced General Manager Information Technology to provide strategic and operational leadership across all IT, telecommunications, and systems functions. This executive role is responsible for aligning technology initiatives with business objectives, ensuring system reliability, security, and compliance, and embedding a strong safety and governance culture across the IT division. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership for IT, telecommunications, and computer systems across the organisation Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, procedures, and governance frameworks Manage and control the IT divisions budget, resources, and performance KPIs Lead and manage IT staff and external contractors, including recruitment and performance oversight Ensure system availability, reliability, cybersecurity, and data integrity Oversee infrastructure, hardware, software, networks, and system lifecycle management Support business units by gathering system requirements, timelines, and cost estimates Ensure effective disaster recovery, risk management, and security controls Promote and embed a strong safety culture and support the organisations Safety Management System Participate in safety, governance, and executive leadership forums Operational & Technical Duties Plan, organise, and evaluate IT and electronic data processing operations Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network systems Ensure technology assets are current, secure, and fit for purpose Maintain accurate inventories of IT hardware, software, and resources Manage user access, permissions, passwords, and security protocols Oversee system upgrades, installations, and technology disposal processes Provide training, onboarding, and ongoing technical support to users Key Skills & Attributes Strategic & Leadership Skills Strong executive leadership and decision-making capability Ability to manage complex, multi-task environments Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Proven ability to lead change and continuous improvement Technical Skills Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems administration, and cybersecurity Experience managing enterprise IT environments Sound understanding of budgeting, governance, and compliance requirements Personal Attributes Results-driven and highly organised Able to communicate effectively at all organisational levels Flexible and adaptable to operational and executive demands Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and accountability Compliance & Governance Ensure adherence to company policies, safety systems, and procedures Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and aviation industry requirements Qualifications & Experience Degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology or a related field Relevant professional qualification at graduate level (higher degree advantageous) Substantial experience in a senior IT leadership role Proven experience in developing and maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
