Business Development Consultant is responsible for building a sales pipeline from the ground up, driving new business acquisition, and expanding the companys client base beyond its primary account portfolio. This role is suited to a senior, well-connected sales professional with a proven track record in business development, capable of independently sourcing and securing new clients across multiple industries. The successful candidate will manage the full sales lifecycle, from lead generation to deal closure, and deliver measurable revenue growth. The position focuses on penetrating new markets and growing revenue across high-demand logistics services, including import and export freight, customs clearance, transportation, and warehousing solutions. Thecompany is an established international logistics provider offering fully integrated, end-to-end logistics services, including: Warehousing and storage Freight forwarding (predominantly sea freight, with air freight capabilities) Customs clearance via appointed agents Transportation and distribution While a significant portion of the business services a key global client, the organisation is actively expanding its general customer base and requires a sales professional capable of sourcing new clients independently from scratch across a variety of industries. Key Responsibilities 1. Business Development & Sales Growth Develop and execute a new business acquisition strategy from the ground up. Source, qualify, and onboard new clients across multiple industries. Build, manage, and maintain a personal sales pipeline independently. Identify, pursue, and close profitable sales opportunities aligned with logistics capabilities. Drive revenue growth through new market penetration and client acquisition. 2. Industry Penetration & Market Expansion Target high-demand sectors, including but not limited to: Mining Energy Petroleum Construction Engineering Manufacturing Position the company as a preferred end-to-end logistics solutions provider. Deliver consultative sales engagements covering: Import and export freight forwarding Customs clearance Warehousing and storage Transportation and distribution 3. Client Engagement & Relationship Management Conduct client meetings, presentations, and negotiations independently. Analyse client supply chain and logistics requirements and propose tailored solutions. Build and maintain strong professional relationships to drive repeat business. Act as the primary point of contact for newly acquired clients. 4. Sales Performance & Accountability Achieve clearly defined and measurable sales results within a three-month probation period. Provide weekly and monthly sales performance reports. Demonstrate the ability to operate autonomously within a growth-focused environment. Continuously identify opportunities to increase revenue, market share, and service penetration. 5. Reporting & Sales Administration Maintain accurate records of prospects, sales activities, and opportunities. Utilise Microsoft Excel to prepare reports, dashboards, forecasts, and sales analysis, including: Pivot tables Data modelling and what-if analysis Advanced formulas such as VLOOKUP Prepare professional client presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Communicate professionally with clients and internal stakeholders via Microsoft Outlook and email. Key Requirements Qualifications & Experience Minimum Requirements Proven experience in sales and business development, preferably within logistics or a related industry. Demonstrated ability to generate new business from scratch and close deals independently. Strong understanding of logistics services, including import/export, customs clearance, transportation, and warehousing. Experience operating within a growth or start-up environment. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the MS Office suite. Valid drivers licence and reliable own transport. Advantageous Experience selling logistics solutions to industrial, mining, energy, or infrastructure sectors. Exposure to ERP or CRM systems. Flexible, agile, and comfortable building a business from the ground up. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Strong organisational and time-management abilities. Entrepreneurial mindset with strategic sales thinking. Probation & Performance A three-month probation period applies. The successful candidate must demonstrate measurable sales results during probation. Employment may be terminated if agreed sales targets are not achieved. Remuneration & Benefits Mileage reimbursed in accordance with company policy for business-related travel. Medical Aid: 50% employer / 50% employee contribution. Provident Fund: 7% employer / 7% employee contribution.
