To be legally appointed in terms of Section 2.13.1 of the MHSA as the responsible Mechanical Engineer, ensuring that all mechanical equipment, installations, and systems on the mine are designed, operated, and maintained in compliance with statutory regulations and company standards, thereby safeguarding employees and assets. Statutory Appointment The incumbent will be appointed as the 2.13.1 Engineer in terms of the MHSA and shall carry full legal responsibility for mechanical engineering matters on the operation. 1. Statutory Compliance Ensure full compliance with the MHSA and all relevant regulations. Accept legal accountability as 2.13.1 Appointee. Conduct and sign off on mandatory inspections and reports. Liaise with the Department of Mineral Resources & Energy (DMRE) during audits and inspections. 2. Mechanical Asset Management Oversee maintenance of all mechanical equipment, including: Winders Conveyors Crushers Pumps Compressors Underground trackless equipment Processing plant mechanical systems Ensure preventative and planned maintenance systems are implemented and maintained. Approve mechanical designs and modifications. 3. Risk & Safety Management Identify mechanical-related hazards and implement mitigation controls. Ensure machinery is safe for operation. Lead root cause investigations for mechanical failures and incidents. Drive continuous improvement in engineering safety performance. 4. Leadership & Management Manage engineering foremen, artisans, and contractors. Develop succession planning and technical skills within the department. Control engineering budgets and cost management initiatives. 5. Operational Support Support production targets through high equipment availability. Minimise downtime and optimise plant performance. Implement reliability engineering principles. Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Mines & Works) Mechanical Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Minimum 510 years experience in a gold mining environment Proven experience in underground and/or surface plant mechanical systems Strong knowledge of MHSA and related regulations Valid drivers licence
