Job Description
The Senior Manager Technical Sales is responsible for driving business development and sales growth for Transformers and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) across Sub-Saharan Africa. This role focuses on building strong commercial relationships, leading key account strategies, and ensuring the delivery of technically sound and competitive solutions that meet customer needs. The Senior Manager will act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring their technical and commercial requirements are clearly understood and effectively addressed. Key Responsibilities Business Development & Sales Lead sales, bidding preparation, and key account management activities across the Sub-Saharan Africa region. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with utilities, IPPs, EPC contractors, municipalities, and key industry stakeholders. Identify new business opportunities and build a strong sales pipeline through proactive engagement with prospective customers. Technical & Commercial Proposal Management Review and interpret Request for Quotation (RFQ) tender documents, including both technical and commercial requirements. Collaborate with engineering and proposal teams to develop accurate, competitive, and technically compliant bidding packages. Gather and communicate customer technical requirements and challenges to define fit-for-purpose solutions. Product & Technology Expertise Develop a deep understanding of transformer and GIS technology platforms, including their capabilities, applications, and competitive value propositions. Provide customers with technical guidance and support throughout the sales cycle. Project Support & Coordination Support awarded projects and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless execution and value delivery. Monitor project progress, address customer queries, and ensure alignment between client expectations and project teams. Market Intelligence & Strategic Planning Analyse market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity in the Sub-Saharan African energy sector. Contribute to regional strategies aimed at strengthening market presence and expanding product adoption. Key Requirements Qualifications N.Dip, B.Tech, or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering (preferred). Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales or technical sales within the energy or power equipment sector. Proven experience working with utilities, IPPs, EPC firms, or within the Sub-Saharan Africa power market. Preferred / Advantageous Experience Experience in the South African IPP sector or C&I (Commercial & Industrial) power market Exposure to African international sales within the power or electrical infrastructure industry Technical Competencies Strong technical knowledge of transformers and a good understanding of broader power equipment. In-depth understanding of utility procurement processes, including bidding, contracting, and implementation. Ability to review RFQs, prepare clarifications, and develop accurate technical and commercial proposals. Demonstrated experience supporting complex energy projects from proposal through delivery. Solid understanding of the operational structure, capital planning, and procurement processes of utilities, municipalities, and commercial/industrial energy users. Existing relationships with utilities, EPC contractors, and IPPs in South Africa (highly advantageous).
