Senior Seamstress or Tailor

The Senior Seamstress or Tailor has a high degree of sewing knowledge, skills, & abilities (KSAs). Teammates can seek out technical guidance from the Senior-Level Seamstress (SLS), but the SLS does not direct or command any employees. The term Senior refers to the persons dedication to the occupation of sewing & their extensive experience. It does NOT refer to rank or position in the hierarchy.

EXPECTATIONS:

Communication . A Senior-level Seamstress should be able to translate highly technical matters & communicate them effectively to all levels of the team & to leadership.

Master of the trade.

An SLS has many years in the trade & has positive diversity in those experiences. They can have a professional certification. They are intimately familiar with the terms & definitions of all aspects of sewing. They know the tooling, brands, basic maintenance, behaviors of various fabrics, all the seam types, etc. They can take accurate & precise measurements & perform basic mathematics and/or conversions. The SLS is to be helpful in design reviews (pattern analysis) prior to production & always be aware of potential process improvement opportunities.

Special projects.

An SLS is expected to address & resolve rare tasks that would be unusually difficult for an entry-level seamstress. A true master has failed many times on their way to becoming an SME (subject matter expert). The SLS is expected to have many tricks to help repair, rework, and/or salvage discrepancies & mistakes that occur during manufacturing.

Messenger.

Leadership can direct the SLS to transmit information to the team. The SLS is expected to deliver the data as a REQUEST and NOT as a command. The communication should be professional, respectful, and clearly indicate that the message is from leadership.

Administrative Tasks . Leadership may task the SLS with admin duties such as the collection of labor hours. However, the SLS does not criticize, counsel, or discipline the employee in any capacity with any regard to the task.

Focus . For any position at MES, you are expected to understand the company goals & to support them. Change & growth is to be expected in these early times. So, it is expected that employees accept & promote the goals.

SUMMARY : The Senior Seamstress is expected to sew. Expect 90% sewing & 10% other duties as directed by leadership.

This position (and the duties associated with it) can be modified at any time (without notice) & for any reason by ownership or leadership as they see fit for the benefit of Mobile Enviornmental Solutions, its subsidiaries, or partners.

Requirements: Proficient in basic math skills for measurements and calculations Knowledge of different fabrics, sewing techniques, and Inflatable construction Experience using sewing machines, sergers, and other tailoring tools Attention to detail and ability to work with precision Strong communication skills to interact with customers Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Note: Prior experience as a tailor or seamstress is preferred.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
