Manufacturing Research and Development Engineer

to support the Boeing Defense Systems programs in the Puget Sound area with focus on the KC-46A Pegasus modification and finishing center in

Everett, WA

.

Current projects include the development of ergonomic production aids, fastening/drilling/assembly equipment, concept tools, and build process improvements. The tasks performed by our engineers involve build quality problem investigation, root cause and corrective measure development, mechanical and electrical design, assembling and testing prototype hardware/systems. Additional projects utilize 3D printing and traditional machining to quickly design/build prototype shop aides and tools. All focused on improving the safety, quality and cost of the KC-46A build.

Support factory operations by designing and fabricating unique tooling and hardware solutions Identify and coordinate replication of solutions to ensure safe, high-quality builds Perform mechanical design and analysis using tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, etc. Utilize supporting Seattle laboratories to fabricate prototype equipment and processes Fabricate solutions using additive manufacturing and machine shop equipment, applying Design for Manufacture principles Research, develop and implement innovative technologies for the build of the KC-46 that improve cost, quality and safety. Work closely with factory mechanics and various engineering functions (manufacturing, quality, liaison, tool and industrial) to improve general assembly methods and processes

Candidates must be a US Citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Mid-Level (3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Engineering Technology (includes Manufacturing Engineering Technology), Computer Science, Engineering Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. Experience with mechanical design using CATIA or Solidworks and doing FEA analysis. Experience with 3D printing; Experience with machining tools and equipment. Familiarity with aircraft structures and assembly methods, or experience in a similar production environment (automotive, fabrication, petroleum, etc.)
