Job Description The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory support and transporting patients into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, adhering to the professional license scope with minimal supervision. The role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, as well as explaining treatments, tests, and equipment usage to patients while providing necessary education upon discharge. Responsibilities Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using various equipment, including invasive and non-invasive ventilatory devices, oxygen and aerosol systems, and nebulizers. Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods. Monitor oximetry and capnography according to established policy. Review and evaluate chest x-rays to determine further assessment needs. Perform pulmonary function studies and assist with procedures related to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, and chest tube placements. Administer appropriate tracheostomy and arterial puncture care based on policy. Execute routine maintenance and documentation for laboratory testing in moderate complexity labs. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines. Insert and remove endotracheal tubes utilizing free hand or video laryngoscope techniques. Maintain accurate records of treatments and patient responses. Communicate effectively with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and ensure accurate information transfer during shift changes.
