A Tech 2 demonstrates proficient knowledge in standard cabling, environmental awareness, and safety protocols. Effective time management, knowledge sharing, and training capabilities are also essential. Their familiarity with devices, DC topology, port maps and fiber pathways, this is crucial for efficient network navigation and troubleshooting. They are proficient in utilizing all essential internal tooling applications for various operational needs. This role may require up to 10% travel domestically and internationally.
Troubleshooting:
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex device and network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
Uplink Racks:
Skilled in executing rack uplinks always using best practices, follows ESD best practices, understands configuration and connectivity of the devices.
Fiber Specifications and Connector Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of various fiber specifications and connector types, ensuring proper installation and maintenance.
Ethernet Cabling/Cat 6 Cabling:
Specific knowledge of Cat 6 cabling, including its specifications, common applications, basic termination methods (though not necessarily proficiency), proper handling in data center environments and best practices for installation, decommissioning and dressing. Familiarity with the most common type of networking cable, understanding its purpose in local area networks (LANs).
Demonstrates a high level of autonomy, capable of prioritizing tasks, managing their time effectively, and working without constant supervision.
Cross-Training:
Actively participates in cross-training initiatives across different areas and sites, including rack installations, deployments, and repair, fostering a versatile skillset.
Communication and Collaboration
: Tech 2’s have the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Possesses a strong understanding of network device topology, enabling them to visualize and troubleshoot network layouts. As well as DC topology and environmental standards of the NEC and BICSI.
Time Management:
Exhibits excellent time management skills, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, deadlines and SLAs are met.
Knowledge Sharing and Training Capabilities:
Committed to knowledge sharing, actively contributing to team learning, and capable of training less experienced personnel, fostering a collaborative and knowledge driven work environment.
Certifications such as CompTIA Server+ or CCNA can be beneficial for validating skills.
Advanced troubleshooting and deployment support. Comfortable with text based CLI Familiar with IP based networking A+/Network+. Good understanding of OSI layer and network principles demonstrates or holds 2+ years of DC experience with 4+ years of IT related experience. Familiarity with the Linux based systems and experience with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Perl) Understanding BGP routing protocols, spanning tree, VRRP, LACP. Strong understanding of network procedures, environmental and safety management in a DC environment. Asset Management Tools and Ticket management. Network to build relationships with partner teams within the DC. Remote link troubleshooting. Technical diploma or certification in electronics, computer hardware, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Proven track record of repairing and maintaining IT and network hardware in a data center environment.
Valid driver’s license and ability to handle physical requirements of the job including lifting equipment up to 50 pounds.
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Dexterity to manage small and complex components during hardware maintenance.
Frequent standing, bending, and moving within confined spaces in the data center.
Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including areas with elevated temperatures and noise levels.
