Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for an oncology-focused intensive care unit position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and dysrhythmia management skills.
Responsibilities
ICU-Oncology unit within a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital with 1,266 staffed beds
Oncology-focused ICU patient population; no chemotherapy administration required
Patient ratio of 1:2 with an average daily census of 21 patients across 25 beds
Specialized procedures include central line care/management, PICC line management, arterial line management, blood product administration, IV insulin protocols, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, BiPAP, ventilator management, high-flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, surgical wounds with drains/wound vac, and phlebotomy (nurses draw their own)
Charting via Epic (experience required); medication dispensing via Pyxis; SBAR handoff protocol used
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
Every other weekend required
Floating required within the oncology service line, oncology floors, and other ICUs, with potential to float anywhere within scope
No on-call required
Block scheduling is not available
BSN and teaching hospital experience preferred
Travel experience preferred, but first-time travelers are welcome to apply
RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
Travelers may remain for a maximum of 18 months before requiring a 3-month break; former permanent employees of a BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Support services available on unit include interpretation services, IV teams, pharmacy, PT, social services, radiology, respiratory therapy, rapid response teams, patient transport, and a unit secretary
Navy blue scrubs required
Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; night shift workers park at no charge in employee parking
Requirements
Active MO RN license or Compact RN license valid in Missouri required; IL candidates may be considered with a pending IL license
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
Epic EMR experience required
Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management required; must pass a Relias EKG exam
Required clinical skills: multi-system organ failure management, IV insulin protocols, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care, IV insertion, continuous and procedural sedation, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, BiPAP, ventilator management, high-flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, wound/drain care, wound vac, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, and phlebotomy
