An opportunity is available for a registered nurse with pediatric intensive care experience to work a contract assignment in Gastonia, NC. This role is centered in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, a teaching hospital equipped with advanced technology and specialized patient care capabilities.
Responsibilities include providing high-acuity nursing care in a 24-bed Pediatric ICU unit, with typical patient ratios ranging from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity. The patient population includes cases of respiratory distress, trauma (including non-accidental trauma), diabetic ketoacidosis, seizures, neurosurgical care, renal failure, orthopedic and transplant patients, along with complex medical and blood disorders. Nurses will also float within related pediatric units as necessary.
Qualified candidates should have:
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a high-acuity Pediatric ICU setting
Strong comfort in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
Active RN licensure along with BLS and PALS certifications
Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record system
Experience with critical care devices and procedures, including Artic Sun, EVDs, invasive line management, ventilator and tracheostomy care, CRRT, vasoactive medication titration, and bedside procedures
Ability and willingness to float to Pediatric Cardiac ICU when needed
The schedule follows a six-week rotation cycle with no on-call requirements for travelers. Orientation includes a two-day departmental onboarding. Support is comprehensive with dedicated CNAs, unit secretaries, resource nurses, respiratory therapists, intensivists, and on-site APPs and residents available around the clock.
