SUMMARY OF COMPANY
Southwest Shipyard, LP provides gas freeing and cleaning services, steaming, and flaring services, Barge and boat repair, Surface preparation and painting, water treatment and new construction services to the commercial and government marine industry. Southwest Shipyard owns and operates four (4) shipyards in South Texas with direct deep-water access to the Gulf of Mexico. JOB SUMMARY
The Burn Table/Plasma Machine Operator performs advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manipulate, cut and/or form raw material according to work orders to meet customer requirements.Verify that the material to be processed matches as reflected on the work order.Check quality of parts to ensure accuracy of dimension and quantity; Report dimensional discrepancies to the metal prep lead man or manufacturing manager as they occur while
and safely operate tools and equipment as assigned, including but not limited to tape measure, caliper, CNC plate burning table and its computer, forklift, overhead crane, and personal protective equipment.Safely and properly move steel to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, by hand, forklift, overhead crane, or other equipment. Attach slings, hooks, or other devices to lift material and guide loads; to climb onto vehicles to tie down and release material being loaded. This is continuous daily activity.Operate equipment in the manner of which it was intended; Identify equipment issues and immediately report to Supervisor.Must be willing to cross-train into other areas as required to meet production schedules and/or manufacturing needs.Maintain and safely operate all assigned tools and equipment, including but not limited to tape measure, caliper, hammer, pallet trucks, banding machine, micrometer, beam hooks, plate lifting clamps, forklift, overhead crane, and personal protective equipment.Maintain an orderly, clean, and neat workspace.Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
In addition, Employees in this position must also be capable of:
Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters. Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, or sitting for long periods of time. Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work. Climbing stairs, and/or vertical ladders of varying heights. Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights. Lifting objects of minimum of 10lbs, with maximum single-person lift limit of 50lbs, with frequent lifting and carrying. Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration. Visually inspecting equipment and verifying information, often in small print. Driving and/or operating heavy machinery safely and be alert and aware of surroundings at all times. Applying sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
2-3 years’ experience operating a Burn Table (plasma, Hyper-Therm 260XD), in a manufacturing environment, with experience operating an overhead crane preferred.Technical knowledge and ability to properly set up and operate the machine, conveyors, transfer tables and machine for a variety of plate steel products.High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.Ability to correctly read and understand work orders and/or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.Ability to effectively use basic computer
intermediate math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).Ability to safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision, work alone and in a team environment.Develop a good working knowledge of material and inventory control techniques and procedures.Ability to maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
