The
Student
Accommodations
Specialist
will
oversee
the
process
of
students
applying
for
ADA
accommodations,
reviewing
assessment
documentation
and
making
reasonable
accommodations
as
provided
by
the
Americans
with
Disabilities
Act.
The
Student
Accommodations
Specialist
will
work
under
the
supervision
of
the
Dean
of
Students
and
assist
the
functioning
and
events
of
the
Student
Life
Office
as
well
as
facilitate
workshops
for
students,
faculty
and
staff
to
keep
them
informed
on
pertinent
ADA
changes
or
updates.
This
employee
will
attend
faculty
and
staff
division
meetings
as
requested
for
similar
informational
purposes
and
will
act
as
a
community
liaison
for
students
with
disabilities.
STUDENT
ACCOMMODATIONS
SPECIALIST
PRIMARY
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Organize,
assess,
and
issue
accommodations
for
students
with
disabilities
including
but
not
limited
to
academic,
housing
assignments,
meal
plans,
and
emotional
support
animals.
2.
Ensure
that
the
interactive
process
occurs
with
faculty
and
staff
when
considering
accommodations
in
academic
courses,
or
in
other
support
services
across
the
campus.
3.
Provide
intake
for
students
and
families
and
educate
them
regarding
disability
services
at
an
institution
of
higher
education.
4.
Review
highly
sensitive
and
confidential
educational,
mental,
and
physical
health
records
to
determine
ADA/504/FHA
accommodation
eligibility.
Interpret
documentation
as
related
to
accommodations
and
work
collaboratively
with
students
to
identify
appropriate
and
reasonable
accommodations.
5.
Address
student,
faculty
and
staff
assistive
technology
needs
including
testing
processes,
note
taking
services,
design
for
hearing
impairments,
alternative
format
textbooks
and
other
needs
as
identified.
6.
Utilize
knowledge
of
community
resources
to
make
appropriate
referrals
to
outside
agencies
to
assist
students
in
obtaining
necessary
supports
and
services
including
disability
documentation,
securing
services,
and
access
to
health
care.
7.
Facilitate
regular
accessibility
compliance
meetings
regarding
services
for
students.
8.
Act
as
a
resource
to
identify
and
address
accessibility-related
barriers
for
students
and
identify
appropriate
resources
to
ensure
ADA
compliance.
9.
Establish
and
maintain
strong
working
relationship
with
the
campus
community
to
facilitate
accommodations
and
ADA
compliance
regarding
accessibility
and
disability
services.
Educate
and
act
as
a
resource
for
faculty,
staff,
and
students
regarding
ADA/504/FHA
accessibility
obligations
through
individual
meetings,
workshops,
and
trainings
as
needed.
10.
Establish
and
maintain
a
strong
working
relationship
with
service
area
high
schools.
