Job Description
Job Summary: The Early Intervention Specialist for Low Vision and Blindness provides specialized support services to infants and toddlers (ages 0-3) with visual impairments and their families. The specialist works collaboratively with families, caregivers, and other professionals to promote the child's development and maximize their functional vision and orientation and mobility skills in natural environments. Conduct developmental and functional vision assessments for infants and young children with diagnosed or suspected visual impairments.Develop and implement individualized family service plans (IFSPs) in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.Provide direct early intervention services focused on visual stimulation, sensory development, communication, play, orientation and mobility, and family education.Coach parents and caregivers on strategies to promote developmental milestones using adapted materials and techniques.Monitor progress and adjust interventions to meet each child's changing developmental and vision needs.Provide transition support for children moving from early intervention to preschool or other educational services.Collaborate with community and/or state agencies, medical providers, early intervention specialists including occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, developmental specialists, and physical therapists.Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to early intervention, visual impairment, and family-centered services.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education, Orientation and Mobility, Vision Rehabilitation, or a related field.Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred.Knowledge of child development, visual impairments, and early intervention best practices.Experience working with infants/toddlers and families in home- or community-based settings preferred.Familiarity with early intervention or special education regulations (e.g., Eligible for Certification as an Early Intervention Specialist. Background check and health clearance requiredBilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) a plus.
