Senior Messaging Engineer

The Senior Messenger Engineer will provide contractor support to the *National Institutes of Health (NIH) Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) Team*. This role focuses on the design, administration, and support of NIH’s enterprise messaging and collaboration platforms. The engineer will ensure reliability, performance, and security of NIH messaging systems in compliance with federal and NIH CIT (Center for Information Technology) standards.

*Key Responsibilities:*

* Provide advanced support for email-related issues, focusing on client-side triage and backend message tracing using Exchange Online tools. * Perform deep-dive investigations into mail flow issues using tools like Message Trace, Mail Flow Explorer, and Exchange Admin Center. * Configure and troubleshoot DMARC, SPF, and DKIM records to ensure proper email authentication and delivery. * Support and maintain Exchange 2019/SE and hybrid Exchange Online environments. * Manage Active Directory objects and troubleshoot directory synchronization issues. * Work with Cisco IronPort appliances for email hygiene and threat protection. * Set up and manage eDiscovery cases and compliance searches in Microsoft 365. * Troubleshoot and configure core protocols such as SMTP and DNS. * Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to resolve complex messaging issues. * Nice to have, Biscom eFax and Secure Email File Transfer and Veeam and Listserv

*Required Skills & Experience:*

* 5+ years of experience in IT support with a focus on messaging systems. * Strong knowledge of Microsoft Exchange (2019/Subscription Editions and Online), Active Directory, and hybrid configurations. * Proven experience with DMARC, SPF, DKIM, and email authentication best practices. * Familiarity with Cisco IronPort and email hygiene solutions. * Deep understanding of SMTP, DNS, and related protocols. * Experience setting up eDiscovery cases and working within Microsoft 365 compliance tools. * Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.

*Preferred Qualifications*

* Experience supporting NIH, HHS, or other federal biomedical research agencies. * Microsoft certifications (e.g., *Messaging Administrator Associate, Teams Administrator Associate, or Exchange Expert*). * Familiarity with *PowerShell*, scripting, and automation for UCC management tasks. * Experience with *hybrid or cloud migration projects* (Microsoft 365 GCC High or similar environments). * Understanding of *NIH CIT governance, ticketing workflows, and service delivery processes*..

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
