Job Description Summary:
An incumbent in the Engineering Associate position performs entry-level technical work in the office and the field. Responsibilities include para-professional level engineering studies, design, drafting, and computational work. An employee in this class receives initially direct and subsequently general supervision from a designated supervisor. Job Description:
Salary Range: $41,820.00-$111,539.00
BUDGETED SALARY: $45,00.00-$60,000.00/ANNUALLY
Essential Duties:

Performs preliminary basic design work in the preparation of plans and specifications for public works projects.
May assist in training and/or leadership of drafting technicians; works closely with civil engineers.
Performs routine drafting and entry-level design work in preparing plans and specifications for public works projects.
Performs as-built reviews and comments on developer and capital projects. Makes field inspections to ensure information is accurate and meets county standards.
Assists in the data collection and computation of water and sewer assets for the division's GIS datasets using GPS, digitizing, and other technologies.
Drafts existing topography and utility locations; map composition using CAD or GIS methods
May be responsible for maintaining central engineering records, such as capital projects, development files, construction plans, and as-built plans.
Interprets, plots, and processes data from field survey parties; assists engineers with survey requirements; plots property outlines from drawings and deed descriptions
Prepares moderately complex exhibits and reports using ArcGIS, CAD, and database software.
Address inquiries from engineers, contractors, and citizens on the availability of public water and sewer facilities.
Performs online and courthouse research for deeds and plats.
May assist in training new employees and field personnel in the use of tools, work techniques, and skills required to accomplish work assignments, and/or leadership of drafting technicians. Works closely with civil engineers on complex public works projects or consultant contracts.
Years of Experience:
Three (3) years' of experience in paraprofessional civil engineering or GIS work related to engineering design or drafting.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certifications, Licensures, and Examinations:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of drafting materials, principles, and techniques
Knowledge of mathematics
Ability to do drafting, design work, and solve computational problems
Ability to read, understand, and prepare engineering drawings
Knowledge of GIS or CAD systems
Knowledge and ability to use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
Ability to prepare moderately complex reports including text, figures, and tables
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with professionals, para-professionals, engineers, developers, contractors, and the general public
Ability to perform field investigations, data collection, or inspection work for compliance while standing for prolonged periods of time
Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, or sit depending upon work assignment
Skill in oral and written communication
