Job Description
About Us
BITE: Building Impact Through Eaters is a trailblazing, women-led 501(c)(3) working to make climate-smart food choices the norm. BITE inspires and enables both systemic and individual changes in how people eat, serve, and think about sustainable foods.
The Role
We are seeking a Development Manager to support and execute the organizations fundraising work. This role is well-suited to someone who enjoys turning plans into action, managing details that unlock funding, and supporting senior leadership with high-quality preparation, tracking, and execution.
As Development Manager, you will assist our Executive Director (ED) and the Director of Finance & Operations with donor cultivation and development operations. You will facilitate donor and prospect engagement, identify and pursue new funding opportunities, and maintain the infrastructure to support BITEs development efforts. As a young organization, we are looking for a motivated team member who can streamline our fundraising work, support our portfolio, and uncover new funding opportunities as we grow.
The ideal candidate will have a knack for prioritization, organizing their workflow based on funding impact, external constraints, and programmatic timelines. We aim to have a larger pipeline of opportunities than we can reasonably tackle, making it critical to prioritize among them and stage our action plans accordingly. At the tactical level, a strong performer would meet self-assigned deadlines and proactively communicate risks, constraints, and needs.
The negative impacts of climate and nutrition access disproportionately impact the most marginalized people in society, including people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, women, and LGBTQ people. Because we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
Core Responsibilities
Pipeline Development & Operations
Lead ongoing research to expand and diversify our donor pipeline, assessing prospects for mission alignment and giving capacity
Manage and maintain our Salesforce CRM to ensure accurate and reliable data tracking for donor relationships, contributions, and engagement history
Generate routine reports to support planning, forecasting, and accountability
Identify opportunities for systems improvements and devise the means to implement them
Proposal Writing & Grant Management
Draft and submit grant proposals, LOIs, and other written fundraising materials, drawing from existing organizational strategy and program inputs, and direction from the ED
Coordinate proposal inputs across staff, ensuring timelines, requirements, and approvals are met
Own the post-award tracking, reporting, and compliance processes
Donor & Prospect Engagement
Identify cultivation opportunities with new, existing, or lapsed funders or donors
Orchestrate donor management efforts, such as gift acknowledgments, action item cadences, and outreach reminders
Support donor engagement event planning, coordination, and follow-up
Liaise with staff and Board members to foster team-wide advocacy and fundraising efforts
As needed, participate in Board meetings and assist members with managing their portfolios
Requirements
35 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising operations, grant writing, or a closely related role
Significant experience with prospect research, proposal development, and grant reporting
Advanced proficiency using Salesforce or similar CRM with accuracy and diligence
Strong writing skills, with the ability to translate program concepts into clear, compelling funder-ready language
Strong verbal communication and demonstrated confidence working with senior staff, funders, and partners
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize work independently
Alignment with BITEs mission and commitment to equity-centered climate and food systems work
Working Environment & Tools
Familiarity with Google Workspace, Asana, Powerpoint, or similarly relevant applications
Availability for occasional travel (rare, with advance notice)
Comfortable with videoconferencing, remote work, and cross-departmental collaboration
