Position Summary: SUNY Upstate is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join the Med/Surg Float Pool. This role supports patient care across multiple medical-surgical units and requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a patient-centered approach. Candidates with Level 1 trauma experience are preferred. Schedule & Shift Requirements: - This is a temporary position from March 2026-June 2026 - Shifts Available: Days, Evenings, Nights - Schedule: 6 shifts per pay period (12-hour shifts over two weeks) Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend Key Responsibilities: The Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, including but not limited to: Obtain and record vital signs - Assist patients with activities of daily living (toileting, bathing, feeding, ambulation) - Serve as a safety companion for patients identified as safety risks - Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development and respond appropriately to changing patient needs - Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient care environment Communicate effectively with nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary team members - Accurately obtain, record, exchange, and convey patient information - Participate in quality improvement initiatives - Exhibit professionalism, ethical decision-making, and positive public relations Take an active role in ongoing personal and professional development Required Qualifications - Current New York State CNA Certification - BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification - Minimum of one (1) year of patient care experience - Ability to successfully pass pre-employment health clearance Preferred Qualifications - Experience working in a Level 1 trauma center - Prior Med/Surg or Float Pool experience Skills & Competencies - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities - Patient-focused mindset with attention to safety and quality - Ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced clinical environment Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 1 - 3 years Salary: $24 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
