The Medical Assistant works under the supervision of nursing leadership and supports clinical operations within an outpatient infusion setting. This role provides direct patient care and administrative support to ensure efficient patient flow, high-quality care delivery, and a positive patient experience. The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with registered nurses, licensed practitioners, pharmacy staff, and clerical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Greet, escort, and prepare patients for infusion services
Record and document vital signs, weight, and relevant medical history
Perform medication reconciliation prior to treatment
Clean, prepare, and maintain infusion rooms/bays before and after patient visits
Administer approved medications per provider orders and scope of practice
Perform blood draws, specimen collection, and dressing changes as appropriate
Assist patients with ambulation, positioning, and dressing/undressing
Provide patients with general procedure information and refer clinical questions to RN staff
Answer phones professionally and route calls appropriately
Support patient flow to ensure timely and efficient care delivery
Collaborate with pharmacy and clinical teams within the infusion center
Assist with medical inventory management and ordering of supplies and equipment
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data collection activities
Promote a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment
Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong clinical and patient care skills in an outpatient or infusion setting
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Attention to detail and commitment to quality care
Professional phone etiquette and basic clerical skills
Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program required
Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
Minimum of 1 year of Phlebotomy experience
Certifications & Licensure
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) – State of California (Required)
BLS / Healthcare Provider Certification (AHA)
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) – State of California (Required)
