Metal Fabrication Process Coordinator

Position Summary
The Metal Fabrication Process Coordinator supports day-to-day manufacturing operations by translating engineering drawings and customer requirements into accurate ERP data, routings, and bills of material. This role serves as a critical link between engineering, production, and the shop floor, ensuring that fabrication jobs are properly set up, sequenced, and executed efficiently.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in a metal fabrication environment, is comfortable working in an ERP/MRP system, and can confidently read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and shop prints.
Manufacturing & Process Coordination
Create, maintain, and update
Bills of Material (BOMs)
and
manufacturing routings
for fabricated parts and assemblies.
Translate engineering drawings and customer specifications into clear, accurate shop-ready information.
Define and sequence fabrication operations (cutting, forming, welding, machining, finishing, assembly).
Support production scheduling by ensuring jobs are properly set up in the ERP system.
Coordinate with production supervisors, weld leads, and machine operators to resolve routing or process questions.
ERP / MRP System Management
Enter and maintain accurate job data in the ERP system, including:
Part numbers
BOM structures
Routings and labor standards
Work centers and operation codes
Audit ERP data for accuracy and completeness prior to job release.
Support work order creation, revisions, and engineering change updates.
Assist in identifying process inefficiencies or data issues impacting production.
Blueprint & Documentation Review
Read and interpret fabrication drawings, including:
Structural and sheet metal prints
Weld symbols and notes
Tolerances and material specifications
Clarify discrepancies between drawings, BOMs, and routings.
Work with engineering or customers to resolve print or scope questions.
Cross-Functional Support
Act as a liaison between engineering, production, purchasing, and quality.
Support purchasing with material requirements and cut lists as needed.
Assist quality and production teams with documentation, revisions, and job clarification.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing processes and data accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
3+ years of experience in a
metal fabrication environment
Strong working knowledge of
BOMs, routings, and work orders
Experience using an
ERP/MRP system
(e.g., JobBOSS, Epicor, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, ECI, or similar).
Ability to
read and interpret blueprints
weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Understanding of common fabrication processes (laser/plasma cutting, press brake, welding, machining, finishing).
Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
Effective communication skills with both shop-floor and office teams.
Preferred
Familiarity with military standards, ISO or quality management systems.
Basic understanding of production scheduling and capacity planning.
Experience supporting continuous improvement or lean manufacturing efforts.
Education
Associate degree in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field
preferred.
Equivalent hands-on experience in metal fabrication will be considered in lieu of formal education.
Work Environment
Combination of office and shop-floor interaction.
Regular exposure to manufacturing operations, equipment, and fabrication processes.
May require occasional shop floor walkthroughs to support production.
