Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Sacramento, CA, requiring TNCC and a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience on a night shift schedule.
Responsibilities
8-bed Trauma ICU (TICU) in an acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center
Patient population includes motor vehicle crash victims, fall injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:2
Telemetry monitoring required — must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
Ventilator management is part of the role
EMR: Cerner
12-hour night shifts, with shift start at 18:45
Every other weekend required
Travelers are first to float, including potential mid-shift floats to other Sacramento-area facilities
Holiday rotation with core staff required
13-week contract
Interdisciplinary rounds are conducted on every patient during day shift
Charge nurse is generally non-patient-carrying but provides break relief; nurse aides serve as safety attendants (sitters)
On-site support includes 24/7 RT, 24/7 pharmacy (ICU pharmacy open during day shift), hospitalist or intensivist in house, and a resource nurse available for IV assistance
Bedside report is used for shift handoff
Self-scheduling is available, with manager balancing; travelers can view schedules remotely and pick up extra shifts or make trades
Floor orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor
A Relias Dysrhythmia (basic or advanced) exam must be passed before an offer can be confirmed; candidates have 2 attempts to score 80% or higher
A pass/fail sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
Scrub color is navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy if worn
Local candidates are accepted for this position
Requirements
Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
Required certifications (all must be AHA-issued and active): BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NIHSS
PALS preferred but not required
Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
Trauma experience preferred
Cerner EMR experience
Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
A driver's license must be provided for consideration
2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
