Job Summary
Whittington Health NHS Trust is seeking a 7 PA Consultant in Community Paediatrics for 6 months, pending substantive recruitment.
We are looking for a developmental paediatrician to join our Islington Community Paediatrics Team at the Northern Health Centre, Upper Holloway, London. This post covers a variety of community paediatrics; doing regular developmental paediatrics including an MDT clinic for severe physical disabilities, contributing to the diagnosis of a variety of developmental disorders, covering and conducting clinics in special schools and participating on the Child Protection rota with the Camden community consultant team. It would be ideal if the applicant can cover the Named Dr role for Safeguarding, but this is not mandatory.
Islington has a team of Community Paediatricians, and the successful applicant will be working closely with the team at Northern Health Centre. There is some flexibility to accommodate special interests and opportunities exist for developing clinical interests.
Main duties of the job
Special School clinics 1 per week
Neurodevelopmental clinics 3 community clinics per month, including multidisciplinary clinic for children with significant postural and movement issues, and one clinic per month in ADHD service
ASD diagnostic clinic (1PA) as part of the Social Communication Team and MDT diagnostic process.
CP second on call (0.25 PA) 2 hours per call, fortnightly on Fridays
SPA (1.25 PA) CPD, departmental meetings, peer review, mandatory training and own appraisal
Lead training of junior doctors and medical students (0.25 PA)
Named doctor for safeguarding if role taken up (2 PA)
Essential Qualifications
Full GMC Registration
MB BS or equivalent
MRCP/MRCPCH or equivalent
CCT (or equivalent) or within 6 months of CT date, or entry on Specialist Register of GMC for Paediatrics
Evidence of within 6 months of CCT date and expected to achieve a CCT
Desirable Qualifications
BSc in medical subject
PhD, Md, MSc, DCH
CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability
Clinical Experience and Skills (Essential)
Working in multidisciplinary Child Development team and comprehensive developmental assessments
Management of ADHD, Autism, epilepsy and physical neurodisability
Minimum Level 3 Children Protection competence, safeguarding assessment and supervision
Management of general paediatric problems – acute and chronic
Teaching (Essential)
Experience of Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching
Team Working (Essential)
Work as member of multidisciplinary team, seeking advice, sharing experience and offering support to other team members
Communication Skills (Essential)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Interpret and communicate broad health information in social and education context
Leadership qualities, influence, negotiation, political sensitivity, conflict management
Management Ability (Essential)
Admin tasks, prioritise tasks, supervise junior staff
Participation in Clinical Governance (Essential)
Record of completed audit and service improvement project
