Head of Clinical Engineering
We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced Clinical Engineer to join Dorset County Hospital in the role of Head of Service and Medical Devices Manager in our Clinical Engineering Department within the Healthcare Technology Group.

Main Duties
Provide strategic leadership for the medical device replacement programme.
Shape the future direction of the Clinical Engineering department.
Develop and implement the service to meet evolving demands, including expansion through the New Hospital Project.
Collaborate with Clinical Engineering teams at University Hospitals Dorset and Dorset Healthcare Trusts.
Lead change management and accreditation implementations (ISO13485, ISO9001, or other relevant standards).

Essential Qualifications
Good honours degree (1st or 2nd class) or equivalent in Physics, Electronics, Engineering or a related field.
Relevant MSc/higher degree or equivalent.
Professional registration with Academy of Healthcare Sciences (AHCS), Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Specialist multi‑disciplinary medical equipment training courses.
Desirable Qualifications
Chartered Engineer or Scientist.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
Substantial practical experience managing a Clinical Engineering service in an acute NHS hospital environment.
Expert knowledge of legislation, national standards and guidelines relating to healthcare technologies.
Expert knowledge of policies and procedures relating to medical device management, including procurement to disposal (MHRA, NICE, WEEE).
Extensive knowledge of the medical device marketplace and regulatory framework.
Operational planning and delivery of medical device projects within patient care pathways.
Proven track record of delivering projects on time, within cost and scope.
Experience managing budgets, producing reports and delivering best value.
Ability to create a safe environment allocating appropriate resources.
Proficiency in compiling business cases, managing clinical trials and overseeing tenders.
Experience designing and delivering cost improvement initiatives.
Extensive experience in quality management systems (ISO 9000, BSI 70000, ISO 13485).
Essential Skills & Abilities
Specialised practical knowledge of Clinical Engineering.
Understanding of processes, medical systems, technical data and interdependent services for equipping wards and new buildings.
Familiarity with bespoke IT application packages and information management systems (F2, EQUIP).
Appreciation of programme/project management methodologies.
Highly developed physical accuracy and dexterity.
Advanced problem solving for complex medical devices, systems and networks.
Experience working on complex devices in patient‑sensitive environments.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Demonstrable leadership and management skills with technology‑centred projects.
Analytical thinking and decision‑making.
Clear communication skills (phone, email, face‑to‑face, reports, presentations).
Organisation, prioritisation and work under pressure managing multiple projects.
Ability to work under emotionally stressful situations.
Negotiating and influencing skills.

Fair and consistent staff and stakeholder interactions.

Salary: ÂŁ55,690 to ÂŁ62,682 per year.

Additional Information
This position is eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route (UKVI) subject to eligibility criteria.
