Senior Legal Counsel | Manchester | Energy & Technology
We're working with a nationally significant, highly regulated organisation at the heart of the UK’s energy infrastructure to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel. This is a rare opportunity to join an in-house legal team that plays a critical role in supporting the transformation and decarbonisation of Great Britain’s energy system.
The Role
Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll support the business as a trusted legal adviser, delivering pragmatic, commercially focused advice across a wide range of technology and commercial matters. Key responsibilities include:
Drafting and negotiating commercial, technology, data, IT and telecommunications contracts
Advising on post-contract matters including variations, disputes, exits and re-procurements
Working closely with Procurement, Commercial, Technology and Regulatory teams
Providing clear, risk-based advice in a highly regulated environment
Delivering legal training and contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge‑sharing within the legal team
What We’re Looking For
3–4 years’ PQE, gained in a well‑regarded private practice (TMT, commercial or outsourcing focus)
Experience drafting and negotiating technology, data, software and/or managed services agreements
Commercial, solutions‑focused and able to distil complex legal issues into practical advice
Strong stakeholder management skills and a genuine interest in business partnering
Comfortable operating in a regulated or complex environment (exposure helpful but not essential)
Proactive, resilient and keen to develop in a fast‑moving organisation
In‑house experience, or exposure to regulated industries, competition law or complex procurements is desirable.
Why Apply?
Work on critical infrastructure with real national impact
High‑quality, varied legal work in a collaborative in‑house environment
Supportive, collaborative in‑house legal team with strong visibility across the business
Competitive salary and flexible benefits package
Genuine commitment to diversity, inclusion and sustainability
You’ll be part of a legal function that’s raising its profile and influence across the business, with direct exposure to the most strategic projects and issues. You’ll work closely with engaged, collaborative colleagues in an environment where your input will shape real‑world outcomes.
On offer is an excellent base salary, hybrid working with 2 days a week in the central London office.
