OverviewThe Metropolitan Police (The Met) is the UK's largest police force, dedicated to safeguarding over 9 million people across 620 square miles in London’s territory. Seen as a world leader and symbol in policing and investigation, The Met has a workforce of over 47,000 officers, staff and volunteers, and operates with a budget of approximately £4.8 billion.In October 2025, the Met launched the second phase of “A New Met for London”, “New Met for London 2” (NMfL 2), determined to make the Met an outstanding local police service for London, delivering better outcomes and keeping the public safe. NMfL 2 focuses the Met’s efforts in five areas: Community Crime-fighting, Culture Change, Fixing our Foundations, Putting Crime-fighting First, and Working in Partnership.To enable the Met to achieve its goals, a new structure has been created which will lead to more effective organisational leadership, encourage greater internal and external collaboration, and facilitate increasingly efficient change.ResponsibilitiesAn outcome of this restructure has been the creation of a brand new post, Chief Strategic and Investment Officer (CSIO - salary band of £190,000 to £240,000 depending on the strength of job-related skills, knowledge and experience), responsible for over 250 staff and a budget of £23.5 million. Reporting into the Deputy Commissioner and working as part of a new-look, collaborative Executive Team, you will be responsible for the Finance; Strategy & Partnerships; Assurance, Compliance & Risk; and Commercial functions; and will lead the definition and execution of ambitious strategies that shape the Met’s future.The CSIO will strengthen organisational influence over markets and partners, embed intelligent-client capability, and ensure investments deliver long-term solutions that enhance frontline policing and public confidence. The role also holds statutory Section 151 accountability, providing financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and assurance over the integrity and sustainability of the Met’s budget.Responsibilities include:Setting the strategy for the Met and driving its execution, owning the process for making financial and commercial decisions, and advancing the commercial capabilities and culture across the Organisation.Representing the organisation to influence policy and funding decisions that strengthen organisational resilience and capability.Driving the right investments needed to reform the organisation by holding accountability for the Met’s strategic investments, ensuring value for money and service qualityFinancial and Commercial Management, and regulatory compliance driving cost efficiency and financial transparency, influencing the national finance strategy for policing, and building an enhanced finance capability across the organisation.Qualifications and experienceTo succeed, you must be a qualified accountant and an expert in strategy, corporate finance, commercial, and partnerships within a complex operational environment.You must have exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills with a proven track record in complex negotiations and problem solving.
