Role Summary
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Legionella Consultant to build and lead our strategic Legionella risk capability. This is a senior technical role for a recognised expert who thrives on shaping services, ensuring compliance excellence, and acting as the organisation's competent person for Legionella and water hygiene. You will spearhead the development of our Legionella services, ensuring our clients meet their legal obligations under ACOP L8, HSG274, Water Regulations, and all associated guidance. This role requires a visionary consultant with deep expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to deliver high‑quality technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Competent Person Duties
Serve as the company's Competent Person for Legionella and water hygiene.
Provide authoritative guidance on all aspects of Legionella control, ACOP L8 compliance, HSG274 Parts 13, BS 8580 and related standards.
Lead complex Legionella risk assessments, written schemes, auditing, and compliance reviews.
Deliver expert technical advice internally and to clients, including root‑cause analysis, remedial recommendations, and strategic planning.
Building Legionella Capability & Service Development
Design and build a full end‑to‑end Legionella service offering, including risk assessments, monitoring programmes, policies, training, and consultancy products.
Develop methodologies, quality frameworks, templates, SOPs, and assessment tools.
Establish a scalable operating model, ensuring consistent quality, compliance, and best practice.
Process, Policy & Procedure Creation
Create and maintain robust internal policies, procedures, and governance structures relating to Legionella management and water hygiene.
Ensure documentation aligns with current legal and regulatory requirements.
Establish QA processes and internal competency frameworks for future team members.
Commercial & Tendering Responsibilities
Lead the technical element of tenders and bids, including writing method statements, pricing strategies, and client presentations.
Support the business development team in identifying opportunities and positioning the consultancy as a market leader.
Build strong client relationships that drive retention and new business.
Regulatory & Industry Engagement
Keep abreast of emerging legislation, standards, research, and industry trends.
Lead internal updates and training sessions to ensure organisational compliance and thought leadership.
Represent the consultancy at industry forums, conferences, and technical working groups as required.
Experience & Qualifications
Proven experience as a Senior Legionella Consultant, Technical Lead, or Principal Consultant.
Deep technical expertise in ACOP L8, HSG274, BS 8580, Water Regulations, and water hygiene best practice.
Demonstrated ability to act as a Competent Person for Legionella risk management.
Experience designing and delivering Legionella risk assessments of complex systems.
Strong track record in winning tenders, writing bids, and supporting commercial strategy.
Demonstrable experience developing industry‑leading policies, processes, and technical documentation.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage at senior levels.
Desirable
BOHS qualifications such as P901, P902, P903, P904 or equivalent.
Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., Water Management Society, BOHS, IOSH).
Experience building or leading a consultancy function or technical team.
Experience delivering training and CPD sessions.
