Band 4 Ophthalmic Technician Location: North Wales, South Wales and Midlands Dates: ASAP until the end of March, potential to extend Shift Days: Weekends Pay: £350-£425 per day Make a Difference ID Medical Insourcing provider is recruiting experienced Ophthalmic Technicians to support high-volume insourced ophthalmology outpatient clinics within NHS Trusts. This role is ideal for technicians who are confident, adaptable, and experienced in delivering accurate diagnostics at pace while maintaining excellent patient care. You will be a key part of reducing NHS waiting lists by supporting fast, efficient, and safe clinic delivery. Who We’re Looking For We are recruiting specialists from the following professional backgrounds: Band 4 Ophthalmic Technician Band 5 Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse Band 5 Outpatient Nurse Band 5 Ward Nurse Band 5 Theatre Nurse Band 6 Nurse in Charge Requirements: Ophthalmic technician qualification or training Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina or Oculoplastic Competence in core ophthalmic diagnostics Ability to work efficiently in high-throughput clinics Strong communication and organisational skills Flexibility to work across multiple sites, including weekends/evenings What We Offer Competitive insourcing rates Flexible working Opportunity to work across multiple NHS Trusts Supportive clinical leadership and governance Contribution to reducing patient waiting times Role Overview Perform diagnostic tests including: Visual acuity testing (Snellen/LogMAR), Intraocular pressure measurement (iCare/non-contact tonometry), Visual field testing, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Fundus photography and retinal imaging, Pentacam, Autorefraction, Biometry scans with the use of IOL 700/500 and A- scan machines Prepare patients for ophthalmic assessment and investigations Recognise abnormal findings and escalate promptly to clinical staff Taking patient’s vital signs (BP, BSL, PR and Temperature) Prepare patients for ophthalmic assessment and investigations Recognise abnormal findings and escalate promptly to clinical staff Taking patient’s vital signs (BP, BSL, PR and Temperature) Explain procedures clearly and reassure patients Support patients with visual impairment, anxiety, or additional needs Maintain dignity, confidentiality, and a professional manner at all times.
