The Opportunity
Demand for data centre scale up is surging, and Finatal is currently partnering with a reputable private equity fund to appoint a CFO to join a recently invested infrastructure asset and partner closely with the credible CEO and CCO on the scale-up journey.
The business acquires and develops ready-to-build data centre sites, selling them to hyperscalers and other operators. The group includes a power and grid advisory arm, alongside a management division responsible for securing and operating powered land.
The fund has committed £250 m of capital to support ambitious growth plans, with revenues expected within 18 months and a pipeline exceeding €1 bn. The medium‑term strategy targets €750 m revenue, with expansion across 5–10 countries and a portfolio of 20–40 projects.
This role demands a hands‑on CFO, who is commercially astute, proven ability to establish and run the finance function from scratch, anchor governance and compliance, and act as a key strategic partner to the CEO, CCO, and private equity sponsor.
Key Requirements
The ideal profile will have an earlier career in corporate finance / transaction services, and pivoted into a broader VP of Finance / Group Finance Director / CFO role with exposure to scale, and multi‑jurisdictional complexity.
Private Equity Experience – Proven track record of cash optimisation, capital structure, sponsor reporting, and governance. Establish investor‑grade reporting, budgeting, KPI’s and forecasting frameworks.
Scalability & Complexity – Multi‑country, and multi‑project portfolio management. Create a unified and cohesive finance structure which is scalable.
Strategy & Commercial Acumen – Alongside the Chief Commercial Officer, serve as the CEO’s strategic partner, and the fund’s trusted operator on the ground. Ensure capital allocation is aligned to sponsor returns.
Hands‑On Delivery of Change – Demonstrable experience of building scalable finance functions, implemented ERP/project accounting, and established controls.
Leadership & Mindset – Anchors control and compliance while enabling growth. Set a tone of pace, accountability and partnership with a forward‑looking mindset.
Key Responsibilities
1. Finance Function Build‑Out
Design and implement a best‑in‑class finance function across the holding company structure.
Hands‑on delivery of robust financial reporting, controls, audit processes and governance frameworks with a lean structure.
Implement appropriate systems (ERP, project accounting, capex tracking, consolidation, treasury).
Develop scalable structures that can support multi‑country operations and rapid portfolio expansion.
2. Private Equity Reporting & Capital Stewardship
Lead sponsor reporting, Board materials and audit readiness. Translate complex project‑level financials into clear, sponsor‑ready investment narratives.
Support investment underwriting and capital allocation decisions. Manage external banking, advisory and partnership relationships.
Align capital structure, treasury strategy and financial planning to sponsor return objectives.
Support site sales, joint ventures and exit preparation processes.
3. Structuring & Cross‑Border Oversight
Oversee the Jersey/UK HoldCo structure and Finnish operating entities.
Manage complex intercompany flows, VAT considerations and cross‑border tax matters.
Ensure governance and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
Design appropriate SPV frameworks for individual infrastructure projects.
4. Risk, Control & Compliance Anchor
Implement pragmatic risk management frameworks that enable growth without unnecessary obstruction.
Oversee compliance across regulatory, financial and operational domains.
Partner with legal (including more junior in‑house legal support) on governance matters.
5. Commercial & Strategic Partner
Work closely with the CEO and Chief Commercial Officer to evaluate growth opportunities.
Provide structured financial insight on project development, asset structuring and partnership models.
Support negotiations with counterparties, JV partners and investors.
