Are you a passionate, resilient and creative English Teacher looking to make a real impact in a Special Educational Needs & Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) setting? We are seeking an inspiring practitioner who can bring the curriculum to life while building positive, trusting relationships with young people who need it most.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced or aspiring SEMH English Teacher who can deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons to small groups of pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural needs, trauma-informed backgrounds, attachment difficulties, ADHD, ASD and complex learning barriers.The ideal candidate will be committed to raising aspirations, improving outcomes and creating a safe, therapeutic learning environment where every pupil feels valued.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver creative, accessible English lessons across KS3–KS4
Support pupils with literacy development, communication skills and functional English
Use trauma-informed practice, de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support
Work collaboratively with Therapeutic Practitioners, Pastoral Teams and SENCOs
Track progress, set personalised targets and celebrate small-step achievements
Promote emotional regulation, resilience, self-esteem and positive engagement
Maintain a nurturing, structured classroom environment that promotes safety and success
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
Has QTS, QTLS or relevant teaching qualifications (ECTs also welcome)
Has experience working with SEMH, alternative provision, PRUs or specialist settings
Is confident delivering personalised learning to pupils with low engagement or barriers xbpsjku to learning
Is patient, consistent and skilled in building meaningful relationships
Understands restorative approaches, positive behaviour management and trauma-informed practice
Is driven to help young people overcome challenges and reach their potential
