Job Title: Waste Management Business Support Assistant Rate of Pay: £15.31 per hour Location: Antrim Civic Centre (with potential requirement to work across Council sites) Hours: 37 hours Duration: Three months Closing Date: Monday 9th March 2026 Our client, one of Northern Ireland's largest local authorities, is currently recruiting for X2 Waste Management Business Support Assistant positions within its team. Main Purpose of Role To provide comprehensive administrative and customer support across Waste Management, Fleet, Waste Operations and Sustainability services. The postholder will act as a key point of contact for waste-related enquiries, ensuring high standards of customer care while supporting operational, financial and reporting functions within the department. Key Responsibilities Act as primary contact for waste enquiries and complaints via call hub, email, live chat and social media. Process service requests including bulky collections, new customer registrations and payments. Provide face-to-face assistance at reception. Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure smooth bin collection services. Maintain and update Council databases and operational systems (e.g. GOSS, route sheets, recycling centre bookings). Process financial transactions, reconciliations and departmental reports using systems such as GOV Pay and Te-Leisure. Compile operational and budget reports including fleet utilisation and expenditure monitoring. Maintain accurate records to support audit, statutory reporting and FOI requests. Support events, mailshots and general administrative tasks. Provide business support to Operations Managers and senior management. To be available to work flexibly during emergencies. Essential Criteria Qualifications Minimum of 5 GCSEs (A-C) including English and Maths (or equivalent), or minimum 4 years' relevant clerical/administrative experience including minute taking. Recognised IT qualification (e.g. ECDL, CLAIT, OCR, RSA II Word Processing). Experience Minimum 2 years' administrative/clerical experience including minute taking. Experience in a customer service role involving direct contact (phone and in person). Experience handling customer queries and complaints. Experience in a waste management environment (desirable). Key Skills & Knowledge Excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong organisational and time management ability. Ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. High level of discretion and confidentiality. Competent in Microsoft Office and Windows applications. Other Requirements Full current driving license or, if a disability prevents driving, access to a suitable form of transport to enable duties of the post to be carried out in full.
