Consultant Geriatrician/ Stroke Consultant NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. Shift Pattern On‑call rota 1:12. Key Responsibilities Geriatric medicine: Share an assessment ward (10 patients) with two colleagues, providing cross cover during leave periods. Provide senior leadership weekly in SMH, overseeing patients with complex hospital‑based clinical care needs; nominally oversee a Specialty Doctor. Stroke medicine: Participate in Hyper‑Acute Stroke on‑call (1 in 12), covering emergency referrals including thrombolysis or regional thrombectomy, and providing continuity of care for stroke patients in Ward 62 and a weekly fast‑track TIA clinic. Cover 10 stroke rehabilitation beds and attend weekly stroke radiology meetings. Lead multi‑disciplinary team meetings, support complex discharge planning and provide clinical supervision for Resident Doctors. Full‑time (10 PAs) with flexibility for part‑time applicants; responsibilities include administration, CPD, audit, clinical governance and job planning, with a minimum of 1 SPA reviewed within 6 months. Qualifications Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and be on (or within 6 months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine or Stroke Medicine, or hold a Vacancy Request Form (VRF) approved 2024.
