Global Total Rewards Director Job Description Overview The Global Total Rewards Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization’s global total rewards philosophy, strategy, and programs. This includes global compensation, benefits, mobility, and recognition programs that attract, motivate, and retain top talent while ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness across all geographies.
Key Responsibilities Strategy & Philosophy Develop and champion a cohesive, globally consistent Total Rewards philosophy and strategy that aligns with the organization’s business objectives, talent strategy, and values.
Lead the integration of all rewards components (compensation, benefits, wellness, recognition, and work environment) to create a compelling employee value proposition (EVP).
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global Total Rewards trends, market competitiveness, and regulatory changes to ensure programs remain relevant and compliant.
Global Benefits & Wellness Direct the strategy, design, and administration of all global benefits programs (e.g., health, dental, life, disability, retirement plans/401(k)).
Manage relationships with benefits brokers, consultants, and vendors to optimize plan design, service delivery, and cost.
Oversee the annual benefits renewal and enrollment processes and drive global wellness initiatives.
Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance for all benefit programs in every operating country.
Global Compensation and Mobility Design, implement, and manage the global job leveling, salary structure, and base pay management framework.
Develop and execute a comprehensive global mobility strategy aligned with the company’s overall talent and business objectives
Oversee the annual compensation review process, including merit, promotion, and incentive payouts.
Manage executive compensation programs, including long-term and short-term incentive plans, ensuring alignment with shareholder interests and corporate performance.
Conduct and participate in global compensation surveys and market benchmarking to ensure competitive pay practices.
Program Management & Communication Lead the deployment and communication of Total Rewards programs to employees and management, ensuring clarity and understanding of program value.
Partner with HRIS/IT to leverage technology for efficient administration, reporting, and employee self-service.
Develop and manage the Total Rewards budget, forecasting future costs, and conducting cost/benefit analyses for new or existing programs.
Leadership & Governance Lead and mentor the global Total Rewards team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Partner closely with Finance, Legal, and operational HR leaders to ensure programs are financially sound, legally compliant, and regionally relevant.
Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CCP, CEBS) preferred.
Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in Total Rewards, with at least 5 years in a global role overseeing both compensation, benefits and mobility across multiple countries/regions (e.g., EMEA, APAC, and North America).
Expertise: Deep expertise in global compensation practices, international benefits management, regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, local labor laws), and executive compensation.
Skills: Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to translate data into strategic business insights. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to executive leadership.
Proven success designing and implementing a rewards strategy during organizational change (e.g., M&A, rapid growth).
Knowledge of US pension plans and collective bargaining agreements.
Strong vendor negotiation and management skills.
