Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.As part of our engineering team, you’ll shape the platforms and tools that drive high-impact research - designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.The roleWe are looking for an experienced Development Manager to lead two strategically important engineering groups within Enterprise Infrastructure (EI):Security Automation Engineering (SAE) – the development arm of the Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), responsible for building automated detection and response systemsEnterprise Infrastructure Application Development (EI Dev) – a new and growing team responsible for building secure, scalable applications and services for G-Research’s corporate domainThis is a high-impact leadership role that spans security engineering, corporate application development, infrastructure modernisation and core platform transformation.You will manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, define long-term technical strategy and drive delivery across critical programmes including the migration of legacy applications and the design and deployment of new systems for our next-generation secure corporate environment.You will partner closely with security, corporate infrastructure, cloud engineering and the wider EI organisation to ensure the systems we design are robust, scalable, secure and aligned to strategic corporate goals.As Development Manager, you will set engineering standards, establish delivery processes, develop people and build a culture of high performance, trust, ownership and continuous improvement.Key responsibilities of the role include:Leadership and strategyProviding strategic and technical leadership across SAE and EI Dev, setting long-term direction for corporate applications, CI/CD, Kubernetes and automationOwning team structure, growth planning, hiring and performance developmentBuilding a strong engineering culture focused on secure design, high standards and continuous improvementDelivery and architectureOverseeing the design and delivery of secure, scalable applications for the new corporate domainDefining CI/CD patterns, deployment architectures and modernisation strategies across on-premise and AWS environmentsDriving legacy application migration, architectural governance and technical debt reductionLeading automated detection and response capabilities within SAE, integrating with Elastic Security, Azure Defender XDR and AWS Security HubSupporting the wider EI organisation in delivering the secure corporate domain through collaboration with infrastructure, networking, identity and cloud teamsOperational and cross-team responsibilitiesEstablishing delivery processes, sprint cadences and reporting across multiple teamsPartnering with CSIRT, Corporate Engineering, Infrastructure and Cloud to deliver multi-team initiativesManaging vendors and representing EI Dev and SAE in cross-functional and technical forumsEnsuring delivery of secure, well-documented systems that integrate cleanly into G-Research’s technology estateWho are we looking for?The ideal candidate will demonstrate many of the following:Technical experienceProven experience leading the delivery of production-grade applications and platformsStrong understanding of secure engineering principles, modern application architectures and cloud-native designHands-on experience with Kubernetes deployment models, CI/CD pipelines and GitOps practices across on-prem and AWS environmentsExperience modernising legacy systems and leading application refactoring initiativesFamiliarity with Python Typescript or other modern languagesLeadership and delivery skillsDemonstrated experience leading engineering teams developing individuals and shaping strong team cultureAbility to balance long-term architectural direction with near-term delivery demandsStrong communication skills enabling influence across technical and non-technical stakeholdersExperience driving multi-team initiatives in complex environments with a bias for ownership action and continuous improvementWhy join us?Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonusLunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar30 days’ annual leave9% company pension contributionsInformal dress code and excellent work/life balanceComprehensive healthcare and life assuranceCycle-to-work schemeMonthly company events
