Senior/Principal Consultant – Surface Water Quality

Job Overview
We need people to join our rapidly expanding team of Water Quality and Catchment Management specialists so that we can continue to deliver sustainable solutions to the water sector and environmental regulators in the UK and help protect the water environment.
Key Responsibilities
Water quality data analysis, conceptualisation and visualisation and clear communication.
Carrying out desk‑based investigations / interpretation of datasets.
Helping to design field monitoring campaigns including traditional and non‑traditional approaches.
Delivery of technical reports and presentations to clients; and winning new work and writing proposals for new projects.
Project and task management.
Being a key member of our water quality team in Sustainable Water Management.
Essential Qualifications
Background in Earth sciences with working knowledge of water quality and geochemistry/environmental chemistry.
Familiarity with the UK regulatory framework: WFD, EIA, H1 and RQP assessments.
Knowledge of water quality modelling tools (SAGIS, SIMCAT, InfoWorks, ICM, etc.).
Experience in data collation (field and/or desk based), quality checking and assurance and interpretation.
Understanding of source‑pathway‑receptor models and ability to communicate ideas written and visually.
Field experience with sampling network design, risk assessment and data interpretation for river and/or groundwater sampling.
Knowledge of catchment management and agri‑environment schemes is beneficial.
Degree‑level qualifications in geography, geology, geochemistry, earth/environmental science, civil engineering or similar.
Higher degree in a relevant discipline is desirable.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Office and GIS packages (ArcGIS or QGIS).
Location & Working Arrangements
This position is UK flexible and mainly based in one of the SWM offices (Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne, Cardiff, Manchester, Shrewsbury, London, Bristol or Glasgow). Hybrid office‑home working is available.
