DCO Planning Director at Ramboll
Location: Birmingham, England, United Kingdom (Hybrid working – office options in London, Birmingham, Manchester, or Leeds). Employment type: Full‑time. Seniority level: Director.

Your New Role
You will lead DCO projects within our Impact Assessment Team, taking ownership of the Development Consent Order (DCO) process. Reporting to the Head of Department, you will deliver quality, timely, and high‑impact outcomes for clients while aligning with Ramboll’s strategic ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead NSIP projects through the DCO process, providing technical advice and managing client consent requirements.
Lead complex negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
Act as Planning Expert Witness at DCO examinations.
Own the delivery and performance of your discipline, ensuring successful outcomes and effective resource allocation.
Manage project finances, report on financial metrics, and achieve business results.
Prepare and implement a comprehensive business plan to support strategy.
Provide line‑management and mentoring to colleagues.
Represent Ramboll as an ambassador, promoting the company’s expertise.
Stay up to date with best practices and drive innovation within your discipline.
Proactively engage with clients to build relationships, identify opportunities, and win work.
Champion sustainable development, finding ways to improve projects and deliver tangible benefits.
Collaborate with other disciplines to build a strong internal and external network.
Your New Team
You will join our Impact Assessment Team, comprising qualified Town Planning and environmental experts, working together within a diverse and ambitious professional community.
About You
We seek a leader who is MRTPI qualified and has a strong technical focus, client‑orientated leadership style, and proven experience in obtaining consent for NSIPs. You will be comfortable with clients, leading discipline teams, and shaping projects with measurable value and impact.
Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a role responsible for discipline delivery and team management.
Experience leading large project teams and coordinating multi‑project environments.
Good general knowledge of the environmental and sustainability market and key sectors.
Proven experience in developing business relationships and leveraging market opportunities.
Degree level education or equivalent.
Chartered professional status (most likely MRTPI).
