Senior Land & Consents Consultant – WSP (UK & Ireland)
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

Responsibilities
Negotiate and secure access to complex land for high‑profile infrastructure projects across Scotland and potentially the UK.
Secure appropriate land rights for large‑scale development projects.
Provide strategic land advice to clients.
Draft and prepare consent documents.
Utilise statutory powers and other mechanisms to acquire land (e.g., CPO, TCPA, DCO).
Negotiate Heads of Terms to secure land for projects.
Liaise with landowners’ agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, stakeholders, contractors and clients.
Manage and settle compensation claims (e.g., CPO, land damage, voluntary).
Work with WSP’s multidisciplinary teams across UK sites.
What We Are Looking For
Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
Strong influencing, negotiating and concise communication abilities.
Experience delivering land and property‑related services.
Experience with land assembly projects, GDPR, data protection and personal data security.
Experience in negotiating access or rights agreements (heads of terms, wayleaves, servitudes, exclusivity agreements, option agreements).
Experience managing and settling voluntary and compulsory purchase compensation claims.
Land valuation experience, either for land or buildings.
Experience with high‑profile infrastructure development in roads, rail, gas, electricity, water, utilities or renewables.
Understanding of land ownership and occupation in Scotland, including relevant legislation such as the Scottish Planning System, NPF4, Electricity Act 1989, Gas Act 1986, Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, Transport Act 1962, Water Industry Act (Scotland) 2002, Water (Scotland) Act 1980, Sewerage (Scotland) Act 1968, Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, Agricultural Tenancies in Scotland, Crofting Law, and other related statutes.
Ability to travel to sites and remote locations.
Membership or path towards registration with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or other professional bodies is desirable.
