Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the operational delivery of assured and well-controlled payment change activities that mitigate risk and protect services.
Leading and developing a knowledgeable and respected team of subject matter experts, ensuring that colleagues have appropriate opportunities to develop and are supported through change.
Applying strategic thinking to developing a vision for the future of payment services that embraces modernisation, automation and digital enablement to secure best value for money and improved customer outcomes.
Ensuring that financial controls are robust and effective, ensuring accuracy and reliability while safeguarding payments, and liaising with auditors to secure improvements.
Exercising sound judgement to identify, prioritise and drive resolution of emerging issues and risks, and working collaboratively with Digital and other key stakeholders.
Leading collaboration with senior stakeholders across Government to support increased and sustainable compliance with payments guidance and policy.
Supporting the Benefit Payment Systems and Services teams by delivering improvements to critical payments processes, and enabling them to increase response effectiveness to payment affecting incidents through more resilient and secure systems and processes.
Using management information and reporting to understand trends and their impact on medium-term planning, and supporting the Deputy Director to develop strategic capacity and capability plans.
Being an active member of the Payments, Systems and Financial Control Directorate Wider Leadership Team and contributing to its strategic leadership.
A strong candidate for this role should be able to demonstrate the following Essential Criteria in their application:
Lead Criteria - Ability to provide visible, trusted leadership to a diverse team with different fields of expertise to deliver key business outcomes, effectively managing uncertainty and change.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively adapt and engage with audiences of all levels.
Experience of building strong, trust-based relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues across boundaries, demonstrating personal credibility as a senior leader and delivering results through collaboration.
Excellent judgement, prioritisation and organisational skills maintaining a highly efficient service while effectively delivering critical objectives, at pace, under pressure.
Strong change management and project skills, with good financial acumen and knowledge and experience of managing robust financial controls.
Knowledge of the payments industry and DWP payment systems.
Experience of successful delivery of significant change projects.
