OverviewThe Head of Humanities will show enthusiasm and have the experience of leading initiatives within the department and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum areas as appropriate. The successful candidate will:To contribute to the well-being and development of the school including the supervision of students and the guidance of teachersTo be passionate about their subject areaTo show enthusiasm and have the experience of leading initiatives within the departmentTo monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a Teacher/TutorTo facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potentialTo contribute to raising standards of student attainmentTo share and support the school\'s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growthPresent regularly to SLT on their findings and next steps for their remitMain Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo act as a role model and an outstanding Head of DepartmentLead on curriculum developments within the subject area and share expertise within the departmentQuality assure provision to ensure the highest standardsShare best practice in subject meetings across the School and Greenshaw Learning trustKeep up to date with new developments in EducationLead improvements on outcomes and opportunities at a departmental levelTo share in the responsibility for, and commitment to, the safeguarding and promotion of the well-being and discipline of all studentsEnsuring the curriculum planning necessary; incorporating whole school policies, contributing relevant units/components to other school syllabuses, as may be requiredEncouraging the selection of suitable teaching and learning styles, materials and subject matter in providing a differentiated approach to studentsEncouraging team members to keep abreast of developments in their subject areasMonitor and analyse the academic performance of students on an ongoing basisDevise and implement appropriate revision/intervention strategiesComplete all self-evaluation documentation, in particular data analysis of student performance at KS3, KS4 and Post-16 as part of the whole school self-evaluation processTo perform particular assigned duties at the reasonable direction of the school Headteacher or their designated representativesAttend regular team meetings for briefing, consultation, sharing of good practice and trainingTo provide subject information and an additional link with parents/carers and others in relation to work in your areaTo support the effective induction for new staff and trainees (if applicable)To undertake a designated programme of teaching across all key stagesTo teach consistently high-quality lessonsTo plan and deliver schemes of work and lessons that meet the requirements of KS3, 4 and 5To be a role model for students, inspiring them to be actively interested in your subjectTo complete the relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of studentsTo set expectations for staff and students in relation to standards of achievement and the quality of learning & teachingTo prioritise and manage time effectively, ensuring continued professional development in line with the roleTo follow the school policies and proceduresTo ensure the effective/efficient deployment of classroom supportTo maintain discipline in accordance with the school procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homeworkTo update professional knowledge and expertise as appropriate to keep up to date with developments in teaching practice and methodologyQualifications and ExperienceHold at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including at least a Grade C/5 in Maths and EnglishHold a recognised degree (or equivalent) with a good classification in a relevant subject teaching qualification (QTS)Experience of holding a position of responsibilityExperience and leadership development/training in Humanities SubjectsPrevious Head of Department experience within an Educational SettingEvidence of independent personal developments and wide reading of the latest researchLeading colleagues to support improving outcomesLeading initiatives beyond your own subjectEvidence of conducting lesson drop-ins and coaching colleaguesBe an excellent classroom practitionerAbility to teach your subject area up to Key Stage 5Knowledge of the latest subject-specific thinking, including research and subject associationsEvidence of a positive impact on outcomesDesire to further raise overall achievement in your subject that seeks to promote the highest standards of teaching and learningDetailed knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments in the teaching of your subject and the wider curriculumA flexible approach to the teaching of your subject that seeks to promote the learning opportunities of all students and to secure the highest possible levels of achievementDemonstrate a commitment to following the school\'s principles of teaching, learning and assessmentUnderstanding of Exam Board specificationsOrganization and LocationWe are currently recruiting for a Head of Humanities (Geography Specialist) to support, guide and join our established Humanities Team at the school.
