AI-assisted Engineering Lead

We are the Armenian Artificial Intelligence Company (AAIC)—a collective of scientists, engineers, designers, and writers. We work globally, creating unique software for diverse clients: from devices that assist professional chefs to city simulations and narrative games. We are looking for a senior software engineer to lead our projects alongside a product lead. You should be a good coder—coding skill correlates with software engineering ability. However, software engineering is fundamentally about designing elegant and maintainable solutions, not just writing good code. We expect extensive experience analyzing and refactoring code, a commitment to high test coverage and thorough documentation, and an open mind toward unusual engineering and organizational practices. In this position, you will not write code. Instead, you'll write debriefs for product leads and specifications for AI, and support other engineers in doing the same. We leverage AI at every level—from task tracking to code generation. We expect modern engineers to do likewise. Above all, we value genuine interest in—or at least curiosity about—the subject domain of your projects. Working on a meal planning app, you'll learn how people prepare and eat meals. Working on narrative games based on books, you'll read fiction and explore what makes it engaging. Working on educational software, you'll study K–12 curriculum. We don't have product owners to remove the burden of thinking from you. Instead, we have product leads who help you understand use cases and scenarios. We don't have scrum masters, daily stand-ups, or grooming sessions via Zoom. Instead, we rely on documentation: project briefs and debriefs, critical path-based planning, and PERT. The team language is Russian; our projects are in English. Being eloquent in the former and proficient in the latter is a hard requirement. This position is remote. Monthly pay ranges from $5,000–$10,000 USD before taxes. The exact amount depends on the size and complexity of the projects you lead and the organisational overhead you remove.
