The British School in the Netherlands is looking for a Head of Food Technology (FT) from September 2026.
The core purpose of this role is to provide academic leadership and support of the subject area within the school. The HoD is a champion for the subject and for high quality delivery of teaching and exemplary learning by their team, leading to full accountability for learning outcomes.
Food Technology is a compulsory subject in Years 7 to 9 and offered as GCSE option, Food Preparation and Nutrition, in Yr10. Facilities for the subject area are of a very high standard and lesson preparation is supported by a dedicated technician.
The role will initially be based at Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) and may require the candidate to work in another campus in the future).

Main tasks / responsibilities
Line management of department members, to include conducting professional dialogues.
Liaise with the SLT on matters concerning the content and delivery of the curriculum to ensure that they meet the standards required by the School Development Plan, national curriculum, schemes of work and exam board specifications.
Ensure that the curriculum and all additional activities are set up in line with school policy.
Provide and maintain information for staff on assessment policies and procedures.
Arrange and lead field trips where relevant and provide curriculum enrichment opportunities.
Actively explore opportunities for students to compete in their subject area with other students/schools โ e.g. COBIS competitions.
Provide advice to SLT on staff development requirements and contribute to the professional development of subject area staff.
Manage the allocation of resources and the budget within the subject area including the deployment of staff and timetables.
Oversee teaching, carry out reviews, lesson observations and monitoring to assure quality of learning.
Monitor and track student progress with data and take proโactive steps to act on this including to recognise achievement and challenge underperformance.
Provide the necessary documentation and information relating to the subject area for inspections and accreditations.
Ensure that effective communication takes place with parents on issues of academic progress and curriculum delivery.
Represent the subject in, for example, options evenings and transition events.
Ensure teaching staff and technical support staff operate safely within the workplace and maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
Take responsibility for subject staff meetings, as well as contribute actively to whole school meetings when requested.
Work closely with the Head of Design Technology to coordinate common curriculum activities (e.g. Technology in Year 9) and the equitable use of classrooms which are used by both departments.
Ability to teach Design Technology to at least KS3.
