About the Program
The NCIA internship is a 6‑month program based at one of our key hubs in The Netherlands, Belgium or Portugal. Internships start on 1 March or 1 September, depending on security‑clearance timelines.
During an internship, you will join and support a diverse international team, learn from experts through on‑the‑job training, and work independently on purposeful projects or initiatives.
About the Internship
Duration: 6 months
Location: The Hague, Netherlands
Focus: Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (JISR) Centre – supporting and protecting advanced ISR capabilities across four key domains.
The intern will support a data model modernisation initiative aimed at improving the structure, clarity and long‑term maintainability of an existing information model or ontology. Duties include:
Analyzing current models to identify semantic gaps, structural limitations and system dependencies.
Proposing improvements to enhance consistency, modularity and reusability.
Redesigning core entities, relationships and attributes using modern data‑centric and object‑based design principles.
Decoupling conceptual models from platform‑specific constraints.
Prototyping redesigned components and validating them against operational or analytical scenarios.
About You
Business modelling : Understands the purpose and benefits of modelling; uses established techniques; may assist in complex modelling activities; develops models under guidance.
Data engineering : Assists in developing and implementing data pipelines and data stores; performs administrative tasks to ensure data accessibility, security and protection.
Data modelling and design : Establishes, modifies or maintains simple data structures and associated components under guidance.
Behavioural Competencies
Deciding & Initiating Action : Takes responsibility, initiates change, makes quick, clear decisions, including tough choices.
Creating & Innovating : Produces new ideas, approaches and insights; creates innovative products or designs; finds multiple solutions to problems.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for our internship program, you must:
Be a national of a NATO member country.
Be currently studying toward a university‑level degree or have recently graduated within the past 12 months.
Have thorough knowledge of one of the two NATO languages, written and spoken; some knowledge of the other language is desirable.
Attach a copy of your university degree or proof of ongoing studies with dates clearly mentioned.
Application Process
Apply via the NCIA Careers site by 23:59 CET Sunday 8th March 2026.
Initial evaluation includes logic, numeracy and behavioural gamified exercises plus on‑demand video questions aligned to the internship requirements.
Virtual interviews will take place in March and April.
Conditional offers presented to successful candidates by early May.
Compensation
In the Netherlands, you will be compensated at a fixed taxable rate of 1,477.30 EUR per month, based on 38 hours a week. Reasonable travel expenses are covered from day one and upon return to your home location after the internship.
Future Opportunities
High‑performing interns may be offered a paid post at G8 equivalent at the duty location for 6 months to a maximum of 24 months. There is no guarantee of transfer to an Internship Temporary Personnel (ITP) role, as funding aligns with business priorities and objectives.
