(X-Laboratory, Rotterdam) We are hiring a passionate and driven Industrial Automation / Electrical / Electronic Engineer to join our growing team of talented engineers and researchers. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, deployment, and maintenance of high-performance industrial control solutions that power our advanced offshore motion-compensation systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between real-time software engineering, electrical/industrial design, and hands-on commissioning work on board sea-going vessels. You will help build, test, and refine our robotic hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testbeds, expand our build and CI/CD infrastructure, and support the continued evolution of our high-reliability industrial platforms.

EDUCATION M.Sc. preferred, B.Sc. acceptable Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or similar NEN low-voltage certifications (up to 690 V) are a strong plus

CORE COMPETENCIES INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Experience with drive systems in the 0–250 kW range (Siemens, ABB, Danfoss) Practical experience with rotary/linear motion systems and industrial automation architectures EPLAN proficiency: creating, reading, and maintaining electrical schematics Understanding of redundancy, safety concepts (SIL levels, failover structures), and industrial power systems On-board commissioning experience on sea-going vessels is a strong plus

PROGRAMMING & SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Excellent knowledge of C/C++ for industrial PC and PLC applications Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) Strong understanding of middleware frameworks (e.g., DDS) Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build infrastructure (maintenance & extension) Competent with common PLC languages (IEC 61131-3)

ROBOTICS & TEST INFRASTRUCTURE Comfortable with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing setups Hands-on experience building, integrating, and troubleshooting robotic or mechatronic testbeds Ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries

COMMUNICATION TCP/UDP/DDS Clear technical documentation skills Comfortable interacting with clients, commissioning partners, and suppliers

SOFT SKILLS Team-player mentality Getting problems solved mentality Accurate and Transparent work records Motivated to thrive in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment Capable of independent diagnostics and structured problem-solving Willing and eager to travel for on-board commissioning (world-wide)

RESPONSIBILITIES Develop high-performance PLC and industrial PC applications in C/C++ on RTOS platforms Maintain and extend build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and software infrastructure Create and update EPLAN schematics for industrial systems Integrate, configure, and test industrial drive systems (0–250 kW) Build, test, and expand robotic hardware-in-the-loop testbeds at our X-Innovation Lab Perform commissioning of machinery and motion-control equipment on board sea-going vessels Support senior experts and lead scientists in mechatronic design and system architecture Produce technical documentation, training materials, and client-ready internal reports

SALARY In mutual consultation, depending on experience, education, and availability. Range from 3000 - 6000 Euro depending on background and education.
