Application Engineer

Overview Spectral is seeking an

Application Engineer

to join our Professional Services (PS) Engineering team. You will work closely with software developers, project managers, and fellow engineers to roll out our energy control products to various projects.

Typical use cases include managing large portfolios of renewable assets, optimizing the operation of various (renewable) energy assets behind the same grid connection, or grid-level solutions to alleviate congestion issues. Some team members will work on control systems for building optimization, such as Building Management and HVAC systems, but your primary focus will be on energy systems.

About you The ideal candidate has practical experience with the design and application of control systems and is comfortable with remote (Linux) devices and networks. We’re looking for someone who is innovative and passionate about applying technology to find optimal solutions for complex projects.

Your profile MUST-HAVES

At least 4 years of relevant professional work experience.

Hands-on experience with the development and application of control and optimization algorithms, including both classical and modern control techniques, such as PID and state-space models, PLC logic.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. You can communicate with technical experts, as well as project managers and clients.

Fluency in English.

NICE-TO-HAVES

Previous experience within the Dutch energy industry, with a strong understanding of power systems and renewable energy, energy storage technologies and energy markets.

Practical experience with systems integration and implementation of mission-critical control systems, including managing IoT gateways, networking and relevant communication protocols.

Working in the languages of C# and Python.

Working with Git.

Fluency in Dutch.

About the role The solutions you will work on are at the cutting edge of smart grid and energy management technologies.

Design specific control algorithms for project use cases.

Configure, commission and test the various Spectral software products during the roll-out for use cases.

Collaborate with software developers, project managers and fellow control engineers to arrive at the best overall solution for the client, including the definition of functional requirements, control algorithms, testing and operating procedures, hardware configuration and network infrastructure.

Draft specifications for new features or improvements of the Spectral software products. Potentially design and implement use-case specific control modules.

Monitoring of our software services, troubleshooting and providing technical support in a rotation schedule.
