About the Role We are looking for a Senior Java Cloud Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and maintaining business-critical, high-availability applications. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong backend expertise, cloud-native exposure, and the ability to operate in complex enterprise environments. You will collaborate closely with product owners, stakeholders, and third parties to translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java-based applications Build and implement RESTful APIs and distributed systems Ensure performance, scalability, and responsiveness of applications Identify bottlenecks and resolve production issues Maintain code quality, structure, and automation standards Participate in peer code reviews and mentor junior engineers Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices Participate in 24x7 production support on a rotating basis (approximately once every 7–8 weeks)

Technical Requirements Core Backend Expertise 7+ years of experience with Java web frameworks Experience as Senior Software Engineer or Tech Lead Strong experience designing and implementing web applications & REST APIs Experience building complex, mission-critical systems Architecture & Engineering Strong understanding of software design patterns and principles Experience with event-driven architecture Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka Experience leading technical projects end-to-end Cloud & DevOps Cloud development experience (not DevOps-focused, but hands-on exposure required) Experience with cloud-native/serverless architectures Azure experience is a strong plus (not mandatory) Experience with: GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines DevOps practices Understanding of monitoring and observability tools (metrics, actuators) Frontend Exposure Primarily backend (Java), but comfortable navigating and maintaining Angular-based frontend applications

Qualifications Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline (HBO/WO or equivalent) English proficiency at working level (strong communication skills) Dutch language is a strong nice-to-have
