Purpose
The Associate is responsible for contributing to the profitable growth and quality of the Bank’s Commercial Credit portfolio. This includes highly complex and customized financial solutions by supporting the Director and Associate Directors, Private Equity Sponsor Coverage Group in credit application write-up, collecting and assimilating information necessary to make credit decisions, conducting financial modelling (financial and credit analysis), and supporting the “Deal Team” with company and industry analysis.
The Associate may have direct contact with clients and will assist the Director and Associate Director in all aspects of their business development activities.
Contributes to the overall success of the Private Equity Sponsor Coverage Group in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
Contribute to Commercial loan portfolio growth and profitability by:
Performing analytic functions, along with other due diligence activities on deals
Assisting with the execution of transactions (deal write up, analysis activities in Moody’s Financial Analyst [MFA] and the Borrower Risk Rating model)
Completing risk assessments and developing recommendations as to the appropriate course of action
Analyzing and processing amendment requests
Researching credit and bank service requirements of existing and prospective clients
Building financial models
Conducting several types of industry research
Ensure sound and timely credit analysis conforming to Bank policies and procedures by:
Ensuring credits are properly and accurately investigated, evaluated and documented by utilizing the MFA output in addition to any further investigation or trend analysis from financial statements such as inventory, receivable and payable listings and analysis of other customer / prospect information
Conducting sensitivity analysis by modelling and projecting financial statements
Experience with NCino would be an asset
Assist in the documentation and closing of authorized transactions
Supports the Associate Director in obtaining documentation required for closing transactions including conditions precedent
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture is considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk. Including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education requirements:
Post secondary education - B.B.A / B.Comm or equivalent
Skills and Experience:
2 - 3 years of Corporate/Commercial Lending experience preferred.
Intermediate credit skills (must be able to write up complex deals, spread financials, assess risk and draw conclusions)
Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis
Financial modelling and computer skills including Excel – Intermediate or Advanced Excel skills
Strong communication skills (written and oral as the Associate may attend client meetings as required)
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with customers including basic and developing sales skills
Working Conditions
Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence - Limited travel locally may be required.
Normal sensory attention is required.
In order to provide a high level of customer service, prompt and timely responses to credit applications are required. The incumbent has no control over the number of applications that require analysis and adjudication/recommendation at any given time.
