Job Description

The General Manager oversees the operations and profitability for this company. The successful candidate will develop and drive strategic initiatives to optimize division performance, set policies and make decisions guiding productivity, quality, and cost efficiency of plant operations.

Responsibilities

Work with the Executive Management Team on all strategic and tactical plans as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting needs

Coordinate proper company resources to ensure efficient and stable sales results

Prepare, submit and track manufacturing and capital budgets

Review and approve cost control reports, cost estimates and facilities requirements

Monitor key competitor activities. Study market research and trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales volumes and effect of competitors' operations on sales

Identify and direct the development of both short and long-range strategic business plans

Assure customer expectations are consistently satisfied, products and services always meet quality specifications and all resources are fully utilized to provide cost-effective solutions

Maintain / Improve on margins through effective monitoring of production throughput

Ensure process is in place to develop and implement corrective actions

Monitor regulatory, legislative and the business environment, modifying and refining strategic account plan initiatives / opportunities

Ensure that all processes in the area of concern are documented according to customer’s quality requirements

Responsible for the maintenance of an appropriate system of internal control for all assets, including physical, human resources and information, within the company

Be a hands‑on and collaborative leader achieving production targets while maintaining safe operations and quality standards

Create and build a high performing team that will support operations and meet customer expectations

Maintain positive, high performance environment that fosters customer satisfaction, enhanced morale and individual employee engagement

Facilitate cross functional communications to improve internal efficiency and effectiveness

Identify and resolve resource and technological constraints as well and ensure that resources are appropriately identified and assigned

Ensure employees at all levels support and work to achieve the company goals and reinforce the corporate culture

Exceptional leadership skills with a strong ability to motivate and communicate with all staff

Foster good working relationships with unionized employees

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, preferably in Business Management, or related discipline

Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a management role with good business acumen

Knowledge of capital budgets and staff planning / forecasting

A proven track record in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to work closely with all business functions using a “hands on” approach to management

Ability to interact effectively with customers, identify their key requirements

Knowledge of steel manufacturing, fabrication procedures, welding processes, machining applications and tooling, acceptable production rates, scheduling and manpower utilization

Experience working in a unionized shop environment

Demonstrated organizational, planning, communication and management development skills

Demonstrated technical, material and manufacturing skills

Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses

Strong analytical skills and experience in interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model

Good organizational skills with the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities
