Summary:
The AMP Retrofit Technical Manager is responsible for leading the engineering, technical execution, and lifecycle performance of AMP retrofit projects from concept to commissioning. This role ensures that all retrofit solutions are technically feabile, cost-effective, aligned with customer requirements, and delivered according to project timelines. Acting as the central technical authority, the Technical Manager collaborates closely with gfloabel AMP retrofit team leader, project managers, proposal managers and sales, sourcing, and field service teams to secure successful retrofit deliveries, drive continuous improvement, and support global growth objectives.
The Role:
Lead and internalize the preparation of Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and other drawingss for both High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) vessels, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards
Develop and validate new concept design solutions during the proposal stage, tailored to the specific technical and operational requirements of different vessel inquiries.
Validate system designs, engineering packages, and technical documentation for retrofit projects meets customer needs and expectations
Serve as the primary technical expert for AMP retrofit solutions and act as design authority and approver, ensuring that all engineering deliverables meet quality, safety, and compliance standards. across global markets
Review and approve all technical correspondences with classification societies, customers, and third-party contractors or suppliers to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with project objectives.
Provide technical leadership and support during project execution, collaborating closely with internal teams (engineering, operations, and sourcing) to resolve design issues and ensure successful retrofit implementation.
Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and solution recommendations.
Ensure compliance with applicable standards, certifications, and safety requirements.
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action planning for technical issues during execution or after commissioning.
Support bid preparation with technical input, system configurations, and risk assessments.
Work closely with project managers to ensure engineering deliverables meet project schedules and quality expectations.
Coordinate with sourcing and operations teams to ensure materials, components, and manufacturing meet technical specifications.
Provide technical oversight during installation, commissioning, and testing phases.
Requirements:
Solid AMP project engineering background in AMP retrofit system design or ship electrical system design at shipyards
Strong knowledge of IEC standards applicable to shore power (AMP) systems across various vessel types, including container ships, Ro-Ro/RoPax vessels, cruise ships, and tankers. both MV and LV vessels
7+ years of engineering experience in industrial systems, power electronics, or maritime/port automation (AMP retrofits preferred).
Strong understanding of AMP/shore power systems, power distribution, and control systems.
High proficiency in preparing technical and commercial proposals for AMP retrofit projects, with a solid understanding of engineering, cost considerations and system operation
Proven experience in marine electrical system project execution and multi-stakeholder coordination.
Ability to guide and mentor the design team throughout the engineering phase, ensuring quality, compliance, and technical consistency across all deliverables.Planning and budgeting capabilities
Proven capability to perform onboard inspections for AMP retrofit installations and reporting, including site assessments and technical feasibility evaluations.
Strong coordination and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with customers, classification societies, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
