General Manager - RUBUS

Position Overview We are seeking a hands‑on, solutions‑oriented General Manager of Rubus (raspberries and blackberries) to lead the end‑to‑end operations of our domestic Rubus program. This senior leadership role will oversee grower engagement, program growth, plant sales, agronomy support, warehouse operations, compliance, and staffing. The GM will also provide strategic direction to the Rubus breeding program, manage budgets and P&L, and represent Mountain Blue at key international events.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the entire Rubus program, including strategic planning, P&L management, and performance reviews.

Lead the Rubus breeding program and provide guidance on variety selection and adoption.

Identify opportunities to expand the Rubus program footprint in existing and new markets.

Review grower performance annually, redirecting or exiting non‑compliant or underperforming growers.

Build and maintain strong relationships with Rubus growers as the primary point of contact.

Support grower onboarding, seasonal planning, and training initiatives.

Manage agronomy support, staffing, and budgeting for the program.

Oversee Tonnage warehouse operations, and logistics to ensure product quality and efficiency.

Coordinate multistep punnet and tray orders, including imports from China and partnerships with local suppliers.

Supervise equipment maintenance and repairs, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Ensure all operations comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.

Maintain accurate records for audits, reporting, and regulatory reviews.

Undertake the occasional international trip for research, variety discovery, and industry events.

Key Skills & Attributes

Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams and priorities.

Hands‑on, practical approach to operational and strategic challenges.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Commercial acumen, including P&L management and budget oversight.

Knowledge of Rubus crops, agronomy, and global horticultural trends preferred.
