📍 Brisbane, Australia

Altro Luminary Partners

Job Description

About the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACCRM) The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) is a leading national medical college and the recognised voice for doctors serving rural, remote and First Nations communities across Australia. With more than 6,000 members, ACRRM trains and supports specialist general practitioners and rural generalists who provide critical frontline healthcare across some of the country’s most diverse and challenging settings.

As ACRRM embarks on a significant transformation program, it is strengthening its operating model, modernising systems, and preparing for the next chapter of growth. This evolution will ensure the College continues to deliver exceptional education and training outcomes while building a high‑performing, unified, and values‑driven culture.

Headquartered in Brisbane, ACRRM is an organisation with purpose at its heart, guided by optimism, conviction, courage, and inclusiveness. The Chief Operating Officer will play a defining role in translating this purpose into operational excellence and a new era of organisational maturity.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer will be a trusted strategic partner and internal leader, shaping ACRRM’s transformation from within. This newly created role will oversee operations across Education, Training, People and Capability, Digital and Information Systems, and Member and Brand Engagement, ensuring the seamless delivery of programs that sit at the core of ACRRM’s mission.

The COO will lead an enterprise‑level modernisation agenda, rebuilding systems, resetting culture, and aligning operational capability with the College’s strategic vision. You will bring strength in project governance, funding management, and technology transformation, with the emotional intelligence and adaptability to bring people along on the journey. With a high degree of visibility and presence in the Brisbane office, the COO will act as a unifying influence across the executive and senior management cohort, fostering collaboration, trust, and shared accountability.

This is a role for a leader who can balance courage with humility, someone capable of navigating complexity, managing risk with confidence, and fostering the behaviours and culture that will sustain ACRRM long into the future.

About You You are an experienced Chief Operating Officer or senior executive with deep experience in higher education, medical colleges, or a complex learning and accreditation environment. You bring strategic insight, operational discipline, and the ability to translate vision into action. With high IQ, EQ, and social intelligence (SQ), you know how to listen deeply, influence effectively, and connect authentically across an organisation.

You are purpose‑driven and motivated by impact, not ego. Trusted, composed, and values‑aligned, you are the kind of leader a CEO can rely on, one who leads with integrity, curiosity, and courage. You are comfortable making tough decisions, guiding teams through ambiguity, and creating unity.

With strong commercial acumen, a reform mindset, and proven success in leading major change, you will bring new capability to ACRRM and help shape the next generation of its leadership. This is an opportunity to leave a legacy by building an organisation that is operationally excellent, culturally aligned, and equipped to deliver on its vision for healthier rural and remote communities. This role offers a salary package to attract the best candidates in the market for this type of position.
